Similac Alimentum- Clearance?
For those who have a baby on a specialized formula, here's a great deal I found at Dillons in McPherson. In the back clearance section, there are several bottles of the ready to use Similac Alimentum formula. It is regularly $9.74, but has been marked down to $4.89. By joining the Similac Strong Moms Club, you can also receive all sorts of freebies and money saving coupons!

Dillons Deals and Matchups 6/28/2012
This week (and likely next) Dillons is featuring a Daytona Mega Event. When you purchase 10 participating items, you automatically save $3 off your total, or $.30 per item. The prices I give on those items reflects the $.30 savings. Additionally, you will receive a coupon for $2 off of your next visit, which is like another $.20 of savings per item.
Just be sure to count your participating items carefully, as 9 or 11 can really mess up your pricing. Also, take note of the date on your $2 savings coupons, as they do expire in a rather short amount of time.

A Summer Strawberry Recipe You Can Appreciate
With $.99 strawberries, I couldn't help but add a couple of new recipes to my menu for this week to give a swing. At that price, I can afford to throw it away if it's a bust. However, this one hit a home run with my team!

Aldi: Produce at a Price You Can't Beat!
Aldi is my go-to store for everything on my grocery list that isn't too rare or I don't have a coupon and a sale to cover. Not only are their prices the lowest on most of my every day grocery needs, they also have terrific produce at prices far below that of Dillons and WalMart!
This week is your chance to do some summer stocking up. You might ask, "How does one stock up on produce? It goes bad so fast." That's exactly what freezer bags were made for : ) There are three items that I have successfully frozen time and time again: strawberries, blueberries, and tri-colored peppers. Now, the berries do thaw much like pre-packaged frozen berries, a bit mushier. However, they are still very flavorful and perfect for including in a myriad of recipes. If those work, I am sure there are plenty of others that will as well that I just haven't tried yet.
Bananas are another freezer-friendly item, but I only freeze them when they've reached that shade of brown where no one is willing to peel them, let alone eat them. Again, that's not a problem if you enjoy banana breads, muffins, pancakes, etc. Ripe, mushy bananas are the best for those recipes anyway!

The new week of sales started today at Dillons. My oldest and I stepped out for a little bit this evening to see what we could find.
The feature this week is a 50% off sale. There are some good deals, but it's hard to plan for them because the actual prices are nowhere to be found in the weekly add. I suggest having your coupons handy and maybe even doing a quick walk-through if you have a chance before shopping, to see exactly what your Dillons might have this time.

Suave Printable- UPDATE 6/7/12
Looking ahead for tomorrow, I try to find out what other Kroger stores (whose sales start Mondays) are doing for weekly deals. I see that some are featuring Suave body wash for $1.79. With this printable, it would be just $.79 after your coupon doubles up to $1. Sometimes Dillons in our area will have an even better sale price, so this could be an awesome deal. Print now, and let's cross our fingers!

Coupon Insert Scoop 6/3/2012
Depending on which newspaper you received, you may have found 2 or 3 coupon inserts in today's Sunday paper (P&G, Smart Source, Red Plum). In this area, the Kansas City Star and Wichita Eagle are your best opportunities to find a paper with all three inserts. If you are a Salina Journal recipient, you will only find two inserts (P&G, Smart Source).
What many people don't realize is that even though you may find the same two inserts in two different papers, the coupons will still vary slightly at times. For instance, I purchased a KC Star and picked up coupons from my parents' Salina Journal. Both contained the new P&G coupons, but one featured a dry cleaning coupon that the other did not. It doesn't happen to be a coupon that will be useful, since we don't have a Tide Dry Cleaning facility anywhere nearby that I am aware of, but this is just one example of a variation. Sometimes the same coupon will be worth $1/1 item in one paper's insert, but only $1/2 in another paper for the same insert.
If I'm going to dish out the same amount of money for a Sunday paper, I always strive to buy the paper with the most inserts for sure!

Target: Clearance Diapers, and More
I must be nesting, because it seems like I bought a lot of baby and cleaning supplies this afternoon!
Target had a plethora of Huggies and Pampers diapering products on clearance. I actually made two trips to Target today, in order to take full advantage of some great baby deals. However, for simplicity, I am combining all of my purchases into one breakdown.
Now, let me make one disclaimer. I am a great supporter of store-brand diapers, and you will likely still find a better price per diaper by purchasing them, even after this sale and coupons. On the other hand, I absolutely love Pampers for newborns, especially Swaddlers. So, I couldn't help but stock up in preparation for our much anticipated August stork visit.
One more disclaimer before the deals. I am also going to give cloth diapering a try this go-around, but I don't plan to use them until baby's first poo has all passed & we'll need disposables from time to time for outings and visits to Grandma and Grandpa's- not to mention possibly for daycare. So even though I will be sharing great cloth deals down the road, you'll still see some disposable posts from time to time as well.

Target had a plethora of Huggies and Pampers diapering products on clearance. I actually made two trips to Target today, in order to take full advantage of some great baby deals. However, for simplicity, I am combining all of my purchases into one breakdown.
Now, let me make one disclaimer. I am a great supporter of store-brand diapers, and you will likely still find a better price per diaper by purchasing them, even after this sale and coupons. On the other hand, I absolutely love Pampers for newborns, especially Swaddlers. So, I couldn't help but stock up in preparation for our much anticipated August stork visit.
One more disclaimer before the deals. I am also going to give cloth diapering a try this go-around, but I don't plan to use them until baby's first poo has all passed & we'll need disposables from time to time for outings and visits to Grandma and Grandpa's- not to mention possibly for daycare. So even though I will be sharing great cloth deals down the road, you'll still see some disposable posts from time to time as well.

Dillons Diaper Deals: Huggies!
No, I am not expecting child #4- yet : ) However, I do expect one at some point hopefully not terribly far down the road, so I have my eyes peeled for really awesome deals on diapers and wipes to save for later. Dillons has a great deal on Huggies right now.
I saw in a recent coupon insert that Dillons would be offering a Catalina for $5 off of your next purchase when you spend at least $20 in a single transaction on Huggies diapers and wipes. So, I thought I'd be getting a sweet deal buying two packs of the Little Movers Slip Ons for $9.39 a package, times two, and a big pack of wipes for $1.99. After coupons, it would have come to $13.77 for all three, plus $5 back in Catalinas (like paying $8.77 before tax).
I got really excited when I saw that they had restocked the Pampers Kandoo flushable wipes and that they were still on sale for $1. After coupons, that meant 5 more free packages of wipes! If you're keeping track, that would be one huge pack of wipes, 5 small packs- you can only use 5 like coupons at Dillons now :( , and 2 jumbo packs of diapers for $8.77 before tax and taking off the Catalina savings!!!

Guest Post: Wallet-Friendly Boredom Busters
Here's a terrific guest post, jam-packed with ideas to bust boredom without breaking the bank!

Childhood obesity is on the rise. In days gone by, if we were not in school, we were playing outside. We made go-carts without breaks, climbed trees, visited our friend’s houses without calling first and we explored. We made walkie-talkie’s out of old tin cans and string. And we had chores to do. We weren’t allowed back inside until it turned dark. It is certainly a different world today. It is too easy to just ignore the children (husbands included) planted in front of the TV, computer or video game. Here are ten wallet friendly idea’s to stimulate your entire family when free time is available throughout the year. Ten ideas designed to encourage physical activity, stimulate the mind and come together as a family.
1) Plant a garden. It doesn’t have to be a big area, and it doesn’t have to be outside. Preparing soil, weeding, watering and picking can happen on a vacant lot, in your own yard or in used milk containers inside. Alternate responsibilities fairly and teach everyone the value of team work.
2) Visit the humane society regularly. Every humane society has an animal petting program. Particularly if the family has been clamoring for a pet, this activity can dissuade the issue when everyone gets to spend time with different animals regularly.
3) Adopt a road. Spending two hours a month walking along a stretch of road that the family has claimed as their project, collecting litter provides a community service, solidarity and provides physical exercise. It could be your own street and when other families see your effort, you may get volunteers.
4) Volunteer to mentor a special needs child. Whether developmentally delayed, indigent, or just plain lonely, inviting a child with a need helps them, but provides a sense of accomplishment, responsibility and worthiness to each family member.
5) Bake for a good cause. Make a batch of cookies and donate to a church for Sunday school or a nursing home. Get everyone involved in measuring, mixing and decorating. Let one member choose a recipe and another decides who will receive the gift. Of course you don’t have to give them all away.
6) Create a family history. Get an inexpensive photo album from the dollar store and have the family contribute whatever they think is important to remember this time in their lives. It could be pictures, drawings, baseball cards or love letters. You may be surprised to see what everyone thinks is important and you will have something to reflect upon when their all grown up.
7) Create a wall. Find washable paints, pick a wall that you can ignore and let the family express themselves. When it is covered, you can paint over it and start again. You may discover a budding Picasso or talent you didn’t know you posses. This is particularly good for rainy days.
8) Have a family play. Collect a bunch of eclectic clothing from good will. Pull it out when there’s time and give the family a theme. Work together to assign characters and everyone makes a costume. The play can be impromptu with everyone playing a role. It will be interesting what comes out of their mouths when they have to come up with a line. It should be revealing as well. This is a good exercise to role play, get everyone to express themselves and resolve hidden issues.
9) Water gun fights. Everyone gets a water gun and access to the hose. Rules are you have to stay on the property and everyone is fair game. I don’t recommend this in cold weather but consider a family snowball fight.
10) Family book day. Start by a trip to the library. Each family member selects the book of their choice and reads it out loud later at home. If there are more than six children, make it a family book weekend.
Spending time together as a family does not have to be expensive or labor intensive. Use this list of suggestions as a spring board to come up with unique ideas. That could be idea #11. Have a family meeting to create an activity list thateveryone would enjoy and participate. Write them down, seal them in plain envelopes and put in a shoebox. When a rainy day comes along, or a vacation day, the first time you hear “I’m bored!” bring out the box and someone picks. Set time limits on computer and video games. Encourage activities that keep the mind and body healthy. They may complain a little now, but the habits you teach them today will stay with them forever.

Homemade Applesauce
When the kids asked what was for dinner a few nights ago, I had to chuckle as I pulled out the good old, "pork chaaawps and applesauce" response.
Even better, our house smelled warm and dreamy as I made homemade applesauce. This recipe will seem too easy to taste good, but don't fret, it was great!
Ingredients
Combine all ingredients in a saucepan and simmer on stove top for 30 to 40 minutes (or until apples are soft). Mash apples with a potato masher or food processor until applesauce reaches your desired consistency.
*I used the good old potato masher, but I think next time I'll use my food processor. Just be sure not to over do it if you like your applesauce a little on the chunkier side : )

Huge Savings at Walmart & Only 2 Coupons!
I hit the jackpot once again in the clearance section of Walmart. I was able to replace our tattered bedding, decorate a bathroom, outfit a child's bed, and more for $75! The best part was, I only had to dig out two coupons for the entire transaction. Everything else was already on sale and 1/2 off of the clearance price.
Since it was late evening, and the cashier had to figure out the 1/2 prices in her head, I actually got a few extra dollars off when she decided to make her math easier : )
