This week is your chance to do some summer stocking up. You might ask, "How does one stock up on produce? It goes bad so fast." That's exactly what freezer bags were made for : ) There are three items that I have successfully frozen time and time again: strawberries, blueberries, and tri-colored peppers. Now, the berries do thaw much like pre-packaged frozen berries, a bit mushier. However, they are still very flavorful and perfect for including in a myriad of recipes. If those work, I am sure there are plenty of others that will as well that I just haven't tried yet.
Bananas are another freezer-friendly item, but I only freeze them when they've reached that shade of brown where no one is willing to peel them, let alone eat them. Again, that's not a problem if you enjoy banana breads, muffins, pancakes, etc. Ripe, mushy bananas are the best for those recipes anyway!
Here are a few of the best finds for this week. The green indicates a great stock-up price.
Bananas @ $.33/lb (normally $.44/lb and always over $.52/lb everywhere else!)
Strawberries @ $.99/lb
Blueberries @ $1.29/pint
Fresh Green Beans @ $1.29/lb Beaumont Decaf Coffee (11.3 oz) @ $2.97
Safari Snacks Frozen Chicken (fun-shaped nuggets) @ $3.99
Canned Pear Slices @ $.89
AppleRounds Cereal (12.2 oz) @ $1.49
Block Cheese @ $1.79
Here's what I made with some of the strawberries and other buys today. Stay tuned for recipe! |
