Summer Reading That Will Give You "Shiver"s

As much as I enjoy reading for inspiration and to broaden my knowledge base, I also enjoy reading pure fantasy that doesn't leave me any smarter : )  I figure it can't be any worse than staring at the television or a movie screen, and it's nice just to escape from reality for a little while every now and then.

Since I work August through May, I try to leave this type of reading to the months of June and July.  That way I can start a book and finish it over the course of a day or maybe two, without feeling guilty or being interrupted by having to spend the day at work.

My husband purchased me an electronic reading device Christmas of 2008, and he even ordered me a book that he thought I would enjoy reading.  It was Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater.  That summer I finally picked up the reader and started in on the book.  Honestly, I did not have high hopes.  Why does it always seem to be that when you expect so little, you end up hitting the jackpot?

Needless to say, I absolutely loved the book. It had all of the teen fantasy and romance that many love about the Twilight series, and sooo much more.  You won't be any smarter after reading it, and you might end up skipping your household duties for a day or so.  However, if you like this type of book, you'll have a great time reading Shiver!

Once you finish, you'll likely want to know what comes next.  There is a second book in the series available.  Though I can't give quite as great of review, it was still worth reading just to know what happened to my characters.  And of course, Book 3 is coming next month : )
